Buildest - game about architecture


Buildest is a game about an architect in different eras. You have to lead a team of honest workers and construct buildings together in different architectural styles. Erect buildings according to premade projects and strictly follow the estimates or experiment and craft different architectural elements to create houses to your liking

Hello everyone!

My name is Pavel and I have been developing games with my wife for two years. We are the MAYO Games and we are planning to start our development diary here on itch.io. Today is all about our new project - Buildest.

Background


 First of all, I would like to share a story related to the very idea of the project. MAYO Games is just two bachelors of architecture. Over the course of 5 years, we have studied a ton of information about architecture from its history to the foundations of modern construction.  The real situation on the labor market disappointed us a little, and we did not continue to work in this sphere after graduation.  However, a lot of enthusiasm for the topic remained and we decided to create a game about architecture.  I wanted to recreate the design and construction process, but without complicated and boring moments and add more gameplay and excitement to it

Game features

Right now the project is in the early stages of development and a lot is still subject to change, but I still want to share the progress.

In the game you have to become an architect at construction sites of different countries and eras:

  •  Ancient Egypt
  •  Ancient Greece
  •  Ancient Rome
  •  Ancient China
  •  European middle ages
  •  European baroque
  •  European modern
  •  European constructivism

Each era will contain several levels on which you need to erect buildings according to the project of the "client".  The movement between levels will be visualized through a separate screen, in which the character of the architect travels between the buildings that he has already built, and ones that are still empty construction sites

On one of many levels player should construct a building according to the project.  At the very beginning, you need to study it and understand where you need to dig the foundation and what building materials you will need.

The building consists of different architectural elements: foundations, walls and roof.  In order to create an architectural element, you need to craft it from building materials according to a recipe and give a command to the workers to start construction.

The main gameplay is management and planning.  What materials are needed for an architectural element, what to build in the first place, where to place building materials for workers in order to speed up their work.  All these decisions lead you to an optimal construction system or  to a complete failure and ruins on the construction site.
